Shakirah Bourne is a Barbadian author. She once shot a movie scene in a cave with bats during an earthquake, but is too scared to watch horror movies. She enjoys exploring old graveyards, daydreaming and eating mangoes. She spends most of her time staring out at the sea thinking about new stories to tell.

Her middle grade fantasy and horror books, JOSEPHINE AGAINST THE SEA (2021), NIGHTMARE ISLAND (2023), BEWARE THE HEARTMAN (2024) and HERE LIES A GHOST (Scholastic, 2026), are all stories inspired by Caribbean folklore.
